In case you forgot, DFA is doing its training academy this July. And this year, we're having it here in Orange County! Yes, we have some great campaign training planned for you in Irvine. And yes, we're already planning to show all of you fantastic Democratic activists who will be coming from throughout Southern California (from Oxnard to Palm Springs to Imperial Beach) how we REALLY do it in the OC! : )
So have you signed up for this yet? Do you still need to be signed up for this? Do you still need to learn more about this? Follow me after the flip for more on this great opportunity to learn how YOU can be a part of the big Democratic victory of 2008...
(OK, fixed! And oh yes, this is cross-posted at Ditch Crazy Dana, West OC's refuge from the insanity and absurdity that is Dana Rohrabacher. : ) - promoted by atdleft)
Dana Rohrabacher may not believe that climate change is for real, but his constituents certainly do. Dozens upon dozens of people took time out of their busy weekend to show up at the Huntington Beach Pier yesterday to make a statement. They wanted to make the statement that Orange County does care about the climate, and both individuals and local governments need to take action to stop the coming climate catastrophe.

On March 5, The UFCW Grocery Workers' contract expires, and there isn't much sign that the UFCW and the store owners are nearing an agreement. In 2003/04, grocery workers went on strike for four and a half months in response to contract negotiations reaching an impasse, a strike that had major repercussions for the market share of supermarket chains and cost an estimated $2 billion. Ownership doesn't seem to have forgotten about that, despite the fact that most of that market share has been regained and, in certain places, surpassed.
The union's website, packed full of goodies, can be found here, outlining what they're up against, what they're doing, and why. You can also sign the petition of support if you're so inclined, and find many other ways to get involved at the website or at the end of this diary.
We're all doing our part to take back California and America in different ways. Sometimes I do it by telling jokes.
Make no mistake, there is a specific value in using humor to talk about the progressive movement contra the Republicans. It's a way to get information out in an entertaining way rather than a pedantic one. It provides good frames to share with your independent or on-the-fence friends. It's a way to take back ordinary political language from the right who've perverted it for 50 years.
