(CA-45) Thank you from David Roth

by: Beth Caskie

Fri Nov 10, 2006 at 19:42:22 PM PST

(No, thank you... - promoted by SFBrianCL)

Update:  28% of Riverside County votes weren't counted yet.

The spring is slowly returning to my step, thanks to Webb and Tester.  But David Roth was not elected last Tuesday, and it hurt.

From David Roth
Thank you!

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Thank You. Thank you for the remarkable encouragement as we built the most impressive campaign in Riverside County History. Thank you for the unfailing support as we raised an unprecedented amount of money for a challenger in this District.  And thank you for your hard, hard work as we knocked on literally thousands of doors and made thousands of phone calls -- and built a movement based on the need for change.

We made history on Tuesday with the most impressive performance of a challenger in memory in this district, and that is because of the movement we built together. We ran a campaign of integrity & honor -- and we are all the better for this remarkable experience.

As I said on Tuesday night -- change is hard. But we have started a ball rolling in the 45th Congressional District that cannot be stopped, and will only pick up momentum as the days and months pass.

(CA-45) Desert Pride Parade in Palm Springs

by: Beth Caskie

Sun Nov 05, 2006 at 23:58:54 PM PST

A glorious day for David Roth (CA-45th) and our happy throng of Americans to march in the Desert Pride Parade in Palm Springs.  Look who the gay community in Palm Springs is for:

GOTV precinct captains have our orders, the final call lists are getting together, and David, as usual, was talking with the voters all day.  The local paper, The Desert Sun, recapped the candidates in today's edition.  My home delivered print edition showed both candidates on the front page, with equal space devoted to their respective articles.  Look how the web version formats it.  The panic among the shills and GOP machine is palpable.  GO ROTH!

Mary Bono's Macaca Moment

From John Chapman's diary on Daily Kos:

Another Macaca Moment-- Help me publicise this!
by John Chapman
Sat Nov 04, 2006 at 09:14:10 AM PST

A Spanish language newspaper received an email from an employee at KNWZ 1140 AM which shows that Congresswoman Mary Bono approves of the term "Third World Toilet" when describing the city of Coachella.

He has a link to a scanned page from the local weekly, El Informador del Valle Indio

If that email really belongs to Rep. Bono, then she belongs far from public office, just as George "Macaca" Allen does.  What a disgraceful crew.  I posted it on dKos, too.

(CA-45) Desert Teachers Vote for Roth

by: Beth Caskie

Fri Nov 03, 2006 at 20:02:01 PM PST

Our teachers want Democrat David Roth for Congress.  From the  local paper, The Desert Sun:

“Unlike the current Congresswoman (Rep. Mary Bono) representing the 45th Congressional District, David Roth has a clear understanding of what our public schools need to be successful,” Carole Bailey, a teacher from the Desert Sands Teachers Association, said in a news release.

.......Supporters say Roth had strong understanding of the impact of the federal “No Child Left Behind Act” on regional school systems.

......“Roth is someone educators know they can trust to do what is right and best for the students we teach and for the communities where we live,” Bailey said.

(CA-45) Boxer and Miller for Roth, Oh My!

I had a date with my husband to see Jackson Browne open for Tom Petty last night.  I stood him up for Senator Barbara Boxer, Rep. George Miller and David Roth at the Smoketree Room in the Palm Springs Convention Center.  Photo by Omar Ornelas, The Desert Sun.

They were electrifying.  All Democrats should be as clear and strong as Miller and Boxer are, and thankfully, Roth is one of them.

(CA-45) A Good Week for David Roth

by: Beth Caskie

Thu Oct 19, 2006 at 07:11:40 AM PDT

Last week, David Roth appeared at Blue America on Firedoglake*, campaigned furiously, and spoke about Iraq and Social Security. "Habeas Shmabeas" McCain came to town for a canned appearance with Bono.  Roth and Bono gave (semi-documented) editorial interviews with The Desert Sun.

Roth wrote an OpEd challenging the pro bono stenography of our local paper, which to its credit, it printed.  Roth's "Blow Over" video passed 3,000 hits on YouTube.  Roth came close to winning the Blue America ad buy.  Finally, finally, the DCCC added Roth to the Emerging Races list.   Well, OK, then.

(CA-45) Mary Bono's frantic spin re: Mark Foley

by: Beth Caskie

Sat Oct 07, 2006 at 00:50:32 AM PDT

Meet David Roth with Alivia and Anita.Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting  Mary Bono is terrified of this big, mean Democrat (pictured with his liberal family) and his mean, mean questions about Iraq, political corruption, and her votes attacking seniors, children, and disabled veterans.  She won't debate, won't even address a public forum without assurances that Roth won't be scheduled the same day, as is the case with the Palm Springs Green Expo this weekend.  She's petrified.  Now we have Mark Foley epitomizing the rot of Republican rule.  Let's count the ways Mary Bono's story "adjusts" to unfolding news reports, shall we?

David Roth LIVE!

The Roth campaign (CA-45) has new videos.   This latest, "Blow Over," notes Mary Bono's total obedience to the Bush/Cheney idiocy.   May 2004, Mary Bono said, "I think this Iraq thing will blow over ..."  that was over 2000 dead Americans ago. Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

(CA-45th) David Roth vs. Mary Bono, or Tell WHAT to WHOSE children?

by: Beth Caskie

Mon Oct 02, 2006 at 00:37:07 AM PDT

( - promoted by SFBrianCL)

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting When Mary Bono first came to Washington, she made herself immediately useful to the House GOP leadership in its assault on Clinton.  Does anyone remember Susan Carpenter McMillan, pictured with Bono and Paula Jones?  {Shudder}  Mary Bono gave us "What do you tell your children?" back then, but we have yet to hear any similar parental concern over the House pages that her buddy Mark Foley covets.  Here's Bono with Foley and Connie Mack as they yuk it up with Kelly Preston. What do you tell your children about Uncle Foley, Mary?  What's that?  Still can't hear you.  How about torture?  No?  Student aid?  Healthcare?  Why are you one of the worst for children and seniors?  Silence.  Still can't find her, either.  Bono won't debate, and David Roth told the 100+ supporters outside her office last Wednesday - don't bother asking for debate, she's clearly too frightened of a public airing of her record.  Just ask her to go home.  Had Enough?  H/t: Blue America and Howie Klein for these fabulous videos!

(CA-45) What Barney Frank told us

by: Beth Caskie

Fri Sep 15, 2006 at 22:30:19 PM PDT

( - promoted by SFBrianCL)

Photobucket - Video and Image HostingToo few of our Democrats are truly music to the ears.  Barney Frank is one of that eloquent, ballsy few.  Smart, funny, and particularly compelling when he's stumping for my Democratic challenger, David Roth.

Yes, I MET him in a Roth supporter's Palm Springs full-to-the-brim house last Saturday (forgive the delay in posting, the kids shorted out my keyboard that same morning).   A lovely man.  He told us not to whine about how corrupt and unfair the rightwing is - they're not going to stop.  Democrats have to beat them in GOTV, we have to walk our precincts, and we have to give David money.
Mary Bono called Barney Frank to prevent this appearance.  Let's discuss that on the flip:

(CA-45) Bono Snarls at "Hollywood Liberals." That's a substitute for debate?

by: Beth Caskie

Sat Sep 02, 2006 at 12:42:51 PM PDT

Rubberstamp Republican Mary Bono accuses David Roth of being one of the dreaded "Hollywood Liberals."  Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting   Please.  You know that the GOP smear machine is in meltdown mode when a Rubberstamp Republican can't even tailor the Rove/Mehlman lines to fit her challenger.  David Roth is liberal, but hardly Hollywood.  He fights for access to college for all students here in California and around the world.  Roth is an education expert and career public servant.  How fabulous!

More thoughts on Rep. Bono's quite reasonable fear of a debate with Democratic challenger David Roth, and her newfound hatred of Hollywood below.

(CA-45) GOP pushes the panic button

by: Beth Caskie

Tue Aug 29, 2006 at 09:39:21 AM PDT

(I'm thinking of doing my hair like that. - promoted by SFBrianCL)

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Yesterday's Desert Sun gave Republican Mary Bono's panic attack a nice spin today.  Bono: Campaign fundraising easier this time

Bono campaign chairman Marc Troast said Friday that the campaign hopes to raise an additional $300,000 between now and election day, which would put it near $1.2 million - nearly double the $600,000 Bono raised for her last campaign, two years ago.

Pure Rovian absurdity:  I have to raise double the usual amount to hang on to my seat this year, so I couldn't be more serene and upbeat!

Bono evidently plans to hide in her bunker and throw money at the voters this year, and hope that the big mean Democrat, David Roth, just goes away.  Sadly enough, as we all well know, that can work for Republicans.  But voters in the CA-45th aren't necessarily buying it this year.  They want a debate.  Mary's got the bankers, David Roth needs the rest of us to win this one.  Contribute  here

(CA-45) Maxine Waters and David Roth

by: Beth Caskie

Mon Aug 28, 2006 at 18:15:38 PM PDT

Photobucket - Video and Image HostingLatest update from the David Roth campaign (CA-45):
Last Friday eight-term Los Angeles Congresswoman Maxine Waters joined David Roth to campaign and meet voters in Moreno Valley.  The day began with a spirited Q&A with several hundred students and soon-to-be voters at Moreno Valley High School. .....There were gasps from the students when Roth told them that the Iraq Conflict had already cost Riverside County over $1.6 billion, enough to send all high-school students in the County to college and to pay for health insurance for them and their families.

"...enough to send all high-school students in the County to college and to pay for health insurance for them and their families."  Kind of puts it all in perspective, doesn't he?  Wonder why Mary Bono is terrified to debate Roth?

(CA-45) Can't Buy Our Love, Ms. Bono

by: Beth Caskie

Sat Aug 26, 2006 at 12:42:05 PM PDT

Mary Bono, Rubberstamp Republican of the CA-45th, needs more big money to fight off the aggressive Democratic challenger, David Roth.  Won't debate, but happy to spend.  IOKIYAR.

Roth campaign manager Joe Huser wasn't impressed by Bono's fundraising ambitions.  "Voters are looking for change in Washington, and Mary won't be able to buy this election," he said.

The last time Mary Bono cried poor, she claimed that Sonny's royalties were the only reason she could afford USC tuition.  Bono's concern over high tuition costs does not extend to other people's children, as she recently cast the deciding vote to cut $14 billion from federal student aid.  How "moderate" of her.

Why is Mary Bono panicking?  We've had a hell of a good week!  Come see on the flip.

(CA-45th) David Roth confronts Mary Bono on Rubberstamp record

by: Beth Caskie

Fri Aug 25, 2006 at 15:24:09 PM PDT

(Roth is on the Calitics ActBlue Page. - promoted by SFBrianCL)

My DD's Chris, Matt, Rick and Joel predicted it:

Facing low approval ratings, Republicans will introduce you to the voters as a flip-flopping, gay-loving, liberal terrorist coddler who wants to cut and run from Iraq, all at the behest of self-absorbed Hollywood moguls and liberal elites.

A tense and hostile Mary Bono sputtered exactly that (sans the "gay-loving," she needs that vote) when finally confronted with a firm yet gracious David Roth last Wednesday.  Roth confronted Bono on her failure to bring resources to the district, and her failure to stem the waste in Iraq.  Besides attacking David for moving here from LA (as she did - and for the record, Roth has older ties to Palm Springs than Bono does), she had nothing but GOP robot speak to defend her record.  Why so defensive, Ms. Bono?  Could it be because Ms. "What Do We Tell the Children" is among the worst Representatives for children and seniors, and among the best for corporate America?  David Roth will Change Washington for our kids and seniors, and for all of us.

David Roth (CA-45) Welcomes Maxine Waters

by: Beth Caskie

Thu Aug 24, 2006 at 09:07:57 AM PDT

Last Friday it was RothAPalooza, and that was fantastic.  This Friday, the Roth for Congress campaign (CA-45th) will have the honor of Rep. Maxine Waters' company as she campaigns with David in Palm Springs and Moreno Valley.

A brave lady and a strong liberal, just what we like around here.  Thank you, Rep. Waters!  Can't wait to meet her.  From David's latest presser:

Key House Leader Maxine Waters had been a major supporter of Ned Lamont in his recent victory over Joe Lieberman in the Connecticut Senate Primary. This time she's stumping against Mary Bono and hoping to put a second upset victory under her belt this cycle.

The brilliant and Honorable Barney Frank is due here on Sept. 9th.  Roth is on a roll, and getting more web-savvy.  Check out the latest local news clip on RothAPalooza:

Fun in the Desert Sun

by: Beth Caskie

Sun Aug 06, 2006 at 00:05:43 AM PDT

(CA-45 is one of the less GOP leaning districts in GOP hands right now. Roth is reasonably well positioned in this race. - promoted by SFBrianCL)

Opened up my local paper, The Desert Sun, this morning, and I find a frontpage article about Mary Bono's continued refusal to debate David Roth.

Marc Troast, Bono's campaign manager, claims that

"Your campaign has engaged in a barrage of clichés and negative personal attacks," Troast stated. "We cannot even begin to discuss a formal debate with you until you prove to be a serious candidate."

Joe Huser, David Roth's campaign manager, refutes that baloney authoritatively in the article (and in our campaign newsletter, as diaried here) but the best part is The Desert Sun's "Talk of the Day" blog for today.  No one bought Mr. Troast's entirely fatuous attempt to spare Bono a public debate with David Roth by smearing the challenger.  Not even Bono's supporters.  The people want a debate.  Some of the voters' thoughts on the flip.

CA-45 GOP's Pitiful, Disingenuous Excuses

by: Beth Caskie

Fri Aug 04, 2006 at 17:55:44 PM PDT

The CA-45 district is a Republican stronghold, the "playground of Presidents," the place where every Fortune 500 CEO has his winter golf getaway, where President and Mrs. Gerald R. Ford reside.  We have Palm Springs, we have the PGA West.  We have Rep. Mary Bono (R), little miss "What will we tell the children?" from the Clinton impeachment.  Since that day in the sun, Mary Bono's presence in DC has been largely negligible.  She's been an obedient Rubberstamp Republican, voting the GOP Party line 90% of the time.   No real effort was needed to get re-elected, until now.  So naturally, she and her staff are ducking, smearing, and otherwise hiding from the voters.

Want a ducky?  Our fabulous campaign manager, Joe Huser, has one for you on the flip:
