While he won't actually come out and say it, his "neutral position" on props 6 & 9 speak plenty loud for me. John Myers has Schwarzenegger's full slate of recommendations, and it also appears over the flip.
There's not a whole lot there to surprise anyone. He's Yes on 4, which he was on 73 & 85 as well. He's no on 8, as he previously announced, and No on the two pseudo-enviro measures, 7 & 10. (Note: I do some work for No on 7.) The only really surprising choices here are the fact that he couldn't bring himself to endorse the two stinkers that the Runners placed on the ballot.
Arnold has always been ToughOnCrimeTM. You might recall back in 2006 when Schwarzenegger's campaign blasted Angelides for not endorsing Jessica's Law quickly enough. Now he can't even squeak out a No. Perhaps it could be that we are already broke, and that 6 & 9 are expensive and don't produce results. Or perhaps that we really, really don't need additional prisoners when we are about to be held in contempt of federal court:
The lawyer representing California in a lawsuit over prison health care said Monday that state officials aren't ready to comply with a federal judge's order to turn over $250 million for new hospitals for inmates, despite the possibility of a contempt-of-court order against Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. (SF Chronicle 10/28/08)
This is a really big deal. A federal judge could start fining the state, or perhaps toss Schwarzenneger (and Controller John Chiang) in jail. Yeah, I suppose that's not really going to happen. No matter if Judge Henderson is able to extract the money from our pitiful budget or not, the prisons are a mess. 6 & 9 only make the situation worse. Vote No on 6 & 9!
Here we go again, another round of endorsements. The bulk of these will be fairly uncontroversial here. On Prop 7, Brian Leubitz did not vote due to the fact that he works for the campaign. See the flip for more information on our positions.
