Republican precinct 'targeted' by Obama tax plan
Voters in Orange County's second most GOP precinct complain that Obama tax proposal would spare others by hitting them with increases.
This was the headline and lede that caught my attention when this little gem was published on October 22 of this year. The Republicans in one of the most richest counties in America were playing the victimized rich card. They are going to be victims of the Obama Presidency.
Media Advisory For:
Thursday, August 7, 2008 MOVEON MEMBERS VISIT REP. JOHN CAMPBELL'S (R-CA) OFFICE TO CALL FOR END TO GRAND OIL PARTY (GOP) STUNT ON HOUSE FLOOR
GROUP WILL GATHER AT NOON TO DELIVER PETITIONS DEMANDING A CHEAP AND CLEAN ENERGY FUTURE
MoveOn members in Irvine will gather at noon on Thursday to call for an end to the Republican's political theater on the House floor.
They will deliver petitions calling for real solutions--not gimmicks--for Americans suffering from this energy crisis. The event follows on a similar one at the Capitol on Tuesday in Washington DC and will be held at the same time as dozens of events in Republican districts around the country (to date, 250,000 petitions nationally).
Since Friday, the Republicans in Congress have been playing to the television cameras with theatrical stunts because Speaker Pelosi blocked their offshore drilling plan. The Republican plan will not lower gas prices but it will line the pockets of Big Oil executives, the same people donating millions of dollars to Republicans.
"The political theatrics in the House right now are brought to you by the Party that's been sold to Big Oil," said Kate Nikolenko, a local MoveOn member. "Americans need solutions, not gimmicks. Rep. John Campbell (R-CA) could have voted to move forward last week, but instead he is grandstanding for a bill that will not lower gas prices but will line the pockets of Big Oil CEOs."
The petition, signed by people in this district, reads, "America must commit to producing 100% of our electricity from cheap, clean renewable energy sources, like solar and wind, within 10 years."

Sometimes, I don't know whether to laugh or cry. A couple of days ago, I opened up OC Metro to discover a feature article about all the major coastal resorts banding together to "brand the waterfront" as the ultimate luxury destination. And of course while looking for the article, I had to see a full-page ad urging me to "wake up to the waves" and "rest to the setting of the sun" at "Brightwater in Huntington Beach", the new luxury housing development that sits just west of the other luxury housing development that sits atop what's supposed to be protected wetlands. But of course, all this OC coastal luxuriousness mustn't end there. I soon find a big ad telling me of all the decadently luxurious scenery awaiting me at the Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach. No matter where I turn the page in OC Metro, I find all this fabulous luxury. Who would have known that I was living in the lap of luxury here in oh-so-fabulous Orange County?
But wait, does everyone really enjoy the "luxurious lifestyle" in The Land of the OC? Can we afford those new houses sitting dangerously close to protected wetlands? Can we even reach the beach amidst all this development? Can we afford to continue ignoring the dire need for affordable housing in the region? Oh yes, and what about the poor kids who want to go to the beach, but can't thanks to OCTA's refusal to meet the demands of bus drivers who themselves can hardly afford the high cost of living in Orange County?
Follow me after the flip to explore just how luxurious (or not) life really is...
But what the heck is going on with Ron and Anna Winship? They are supposed to be the "Newport BeachRepublicans" on the blog, but I am wondering if they are really representing more than just your typical Newport Beach Republicans... Especially when they say stuff like this:
The inquiry goes something like this: "Are you a witch?", NO! "Ok, is any member of your family a witch?" NO!, "OK, so you are saying that you have never known any witch in your entire life?" NO!.... I am saying I am not a witch and no member of my family is a witch! "Hmmm, then you are saying basically that you have never known a witch, never met a witch, never dated a witch, never attended a coven meeting, never watched a television program with witches and in fact are a non-denominational church going person of good repute...who denies any connections to the 'Wicked Witches of the West' or any affiliate organizations?" What do you mean by Affiliate Organizations Senator?
At first, I thought this was ridiculous... But now, I must admit that this is some of the most brilliant and hilarious CAMP that I have ever seen. OK, I know this sounds crazy, but I'll explain it to you after the flip...
{This is Part 7 of my special report on the proposed extension of the 241 Toll Road to San Onofre State Beach (aka Trestles). If you'd like, you can find the other stories in the "Speeding Our Way to Trestles" series here. As the debate heats up over Trestles and the 241, I'd like to go in depth and examine all the issues involved... And I'd love for you to come along for the ride as we explore what can be done to relieve traffic in South Orange County AND Save Trestles Beach. Enjoy! : ) }
However, is there anything we can do to stop TCA from pursuing total madness? What can we do to save Trestles forever, and stop all this crazy talk about this immoral AND impractical toll road?
Well, perhaps history canteach usa lesson. After all, this is not the first time that we in OC have fought over the future of our beaches. Follow me after the flip for a wild and wonderful history lesson (illustrated with plenty of fantastic beach pics!) in fighting over development and saving Orange County's coastal treasures.
(After a really rough day today, here's a good story with a happy ending. : ) - promoted by atdleft)
Finally, a happy ending is near for a quintessential Orange County tale of rustic beauty and development run amok! Not so long ago, a few developers wanted to turn this historic beachside community into a mega-resort. Today, the city of Newport Beach is agreeing to help out in saving this little beach of dreams for all to enjoy.
Join me after the flip for a little bit of history, and a full illustration of this coastal beauty that I'd like to share with you! : )
