David Roth

(CA-45) Maxine Waters and David Roth

by: Beth Caskie

Mon Aug 28, 2006 at 18:15:38 PM PDT

Photobucket - Video and Image HostingLatest update from the David Roth campaign (CA-45):
Last Friday eight-term Los Angeles Congresswoman Maxine Waters joined David Roth to campaign and meet voters in Moreno Valley.  The day began with a spirited Q&A with several hundred students and soon-to-be voters at Moreno Valley High School. .....There were gasps from the students when Roth told them that the Iraq Conflict had already cost Riverside County over $1.6 billion, enough to send all high-school students in the County to college and to pay for health insurance for them and their families.

"...enough to send all high-school students in the County to college and to pay for health insurance for them and their families."  Kind of puts it all in perspective, doesn't he?  Wonder why Mary Bono is terrified to debate Roth?

(CA-45) Can't Buy Our Love, Ms. Bono

by: Beth Caskie

Sat Aug 26, 2006 at 12:42:05 PM PDT

Mary Bono, Rubberstamp Republican of the CA-45th, needs more big money to fight off the aggressive Democratic challenger, David Roth.  Won't debate, but happy to spend.  IOKIYAR.

Roth campaign manager Joe Huser wasn't impressed by Bono's fundraising ambitions.  "Voters are looking for change in Washington, and Mary won't be able to buy this election," he said.

The last time Mary Bono cried poor, she claimed that Sonny's royalties were the only reason she could afford USC tuition.  Bono's concern over high tuition costs does not extend to other people's children, as she recently cast the deciding vote to cut $14 billion from federal student aid.  How "moderate" of her.

Why is Mary Bono panicking?  We've had a hell of a good week!  Come see on the flip.

(CA-45th) David Roth confronts Mary Bono on Rubberstamp record

by: Beth Caskie

Fri Aug 25, 2006 at 15:24:09 PM PDT

(Roth is on the Calitics ActBlue Page. - promoted by SFBrianCL)

My DD's Chris, Matt, Rick and Joel predicted it:

Facing low approval ratings, Republicans will introduce you to the voters as a flip-flopping, gay-loving, liberal terrorist coddler who wants to cut and run from Iraq, all at the behest of self-absorbed Hollywood moguls and liberal elites.

A tense and hostile Mary Bono sputtered exactly that (sans the "gay-loving," she needs that vote) when finally confronted with a firm yet gracious David Roth last Wednesday.  Roth confronted Bono on her failure to bring resources to the district, and her failure to stem the waste in Iraq.  Besides attacking David for moving here from LA (as she did - and for the record, Roth has older ties to Palm Springs than Bono does), she had nothing but GOP robot speak to defend her record.  Why so defensive, Ms. Bono?  Could it be because Ms. "What Do We Tell the Children" is among the worst Representatives for children and seniors, and among the best for corporate America?  David Roth will Change Washington for our kids and seniors, and for all of us.

David Roth (CA-45) Welcomes Maxine Waters

by: Beth Caskie

Thu Aug 24, 2006 at 09:07:57 AM PDT

Last Friday it was RothAPalooza, and that was fantastic.  This Friday, the Roth for Congress campaign (CA-45th) will have the honor of Rep. Maxine Waters' company as she campaigns with David in Palm Springs and Moreno Valley.

A brave lady and a strong liberal, just what we like around here.  Thank you, Rep. Waters!  Can't wait to meet her.  From David's latest presser:

Key House Leader Maxine Waters had been a major supporter of Ned Lamont in his recent victory over Joe Lieberman in the Connecticut Senate Primary. This time she's stumping against Mary Bono and hoping to put a second upset victory under her belt this cycle.

The brilliant and Honorable Barney Frank is due here on Sept. 9th.  Roth is on a roll, and getting more web-savvy.  Check out the latest local news clip on RothAPalooza:

CA-45, or Excuse me, have you seen my Member?

of Congress, that is.  Neither have I, despite numerous invitations to debate with David Roth at his well-attended town hall meetings across the 45th district.  Mary Bono is still ducking, and I just heard through the grapevine that she is literally petrified of David and his progressive, forthright, and comprehensive grasp of the issues.   Well, Bono is a music fan, so perhaps she can be persuaded to join us at the

Roth - A - Palooza!!

This Friday in Coachella.  Bloodmoney, Roadblock, and 103 are playing the Roth-a-Palooza at deputy field organizer Juan Carlos Sanchez's place.  Yes, this is the same Coachella that hosts the Coachella Music Festival.  We know our music around here, and our Democrats.  Vote for David Roth!  Next town hall:  Saturday, August 19th at Cathedral City Public Library.

CA-45 GOP's Pitiful, Disingenuous Excuses

by: Beth Caskie

Fri Aug 04, 2006 at 17:55:44 PM PDT

The CA-45 district is a Republican stronghold, the "playground of Presidents," the place where every Fortune 500 CEO has his winter golf getaway, where President and Mrs. Gerald R. Ford reside.  We have Palm Springs, we have the PGA West.  We have Rep. Mary Bono (R), little miss "What will we tell the children?" from the Clinton impeachment.  Since that day in the sun, Mary Bono's presence in DC has been largely negligible.  She's been an obedient Rubberstamp Republican, voting the GOP Party line 90% of the time.   No real effort was needed to get re-elected, until now.  So naturally, she and her staff are ducking, smearing, and otherwise hiding from the voters.

Want a ducky?  Our fabulous campaign manager, Joe Huser, has one for you on the flip:

CA-45: HRC endorses Mary Bono over David Roth

by: Brian Leubitz

Thu Jun 01, 2006 at 20:34:21 PM PDT

Well, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the LGBT lobbying organization, has lost another member, me.  For some reason, the HRC thinks that the way to win is to endorse the establishment candidates over more pro-equality candidates.

Exhibit A: Joe Lieberman.  The man said “I think homosexuality is wrong.”  He has said several times in the past that he is against gay marriage.  Now, I could understand if the man was running against some right-winger, but he’s running against Ned Lamont.  Lamont has come out in favor of gay marriage.  Lamont is an easy call here.  See Parachutec’s HuffPo post on the topic.

But, Lieberman at least votes for Democratic leadership in the Senate.  Under Democratic Leadership, the hate-filled Federal Marriage Amendment (FMA) would never see the light of day.  But the HRC likes to pretend that they support both parties.  That’s preposterous! (I contained my language there…go me!)  The GOP brought us the FMA, brought us gay-bashing as a means to victory.  What more does the GOP need to do to convince the HRC that they don’t like gays?  Perhaps a new law requiring a pink triangle on your shirt.  That would be nice.

And so what does the HRC do in California?  They endorse Mary Bono.  Yup, that’s right, the widow of Sonny Bono who is running for re-election in CA-45:

There’s no question that a Democratic majority in Congress would do more to support equality. Even if Democrats win a majority, their margin will be slim. Republicans will still have votes in Congress – and power.

Case in point. In 2005, for the first time ever, a hate crimes bill passed in the House of Representatives. That only happened because more than 30 Republicans joined Democrats in the vote.

Rep. Bono was not only one of those votes, but she also co-sponsored the measure and pushed her GOP colleagues for their support. If any lobbying effort is going to succeed, you must have Republican and Democratic friends. Rep. Bono is one of those friends, and becoming a stronger friend each year. HRC

In my book, your friends don’t vote for taking funding away from D.C. for allowing gay adoptions.  What we need is not 2 more years of a Republican majority.  David Roth supports the LGBT community completely.  To me, if you have one candidate who supports your goals completely, and one who does less so, you go with the one who supports you.

This is wrong.  The HRC is wrong, and while I didn’t have them in my will for a million bucks, I will not be giving them any more money.  The HRC owes no duty to incumbents, but to their members.  They should remember that next time they start endorsing Republicans.

CA-45: Internal Polling Has Roth ahead of Bono

by: Brian Leubitz

Thu May 04, 2006 at 16:33:27 PM PDT

David Roth has some internal polling that has him ahead by 7 points over incumbent Mary "I've got you too babe" Bono.

According to an independent and confidential poll just taken for business clients of a well-known pollster, once voters in the sample were presented with my vs. Bono's personal and professional characteristics, the results show that if the election were held today I would be 7 percentage points ahead! (Roth for Congress)

CA-45 seems like a prime pickup for the Dems in the House.  Bono is flailing at this point.  Also, check out this post on Mary Bono at Down With Tyranny.  It seems poor Mary can't afford to send her poor, destitute son to USC on a Representative's Salary and still have a pimped-out fleet.  Aww...poor Mary.
