Calitics Show: Julie Bornstein

by: Brian Leubitz

Mon Jun 16, 2008 at 12:58:48 PM PDT

(bumped - this was a really good discussion.  I'm more excited now about the Bornstein candidacy.  Be sure to check out the podcast. - promoted by David Dayen)

Another exciting Calitics Show this week. We'll be talking live to Julie Bornstein, Democratic nominee for CA-45. CA-45 is a Congressional District that we have a real shot at. Despite being only the 194th Most Republican District at R+3, it is currently listed by Cook as a solid Republican Seat.  I'll note that Cook also rated Pombo as a solid Republican seat around this time two years ago. Bornstein, a former Assembly member, is a solid candidate with the possibility to shock a few people come November.

The show's live at 3:30 today. You can catch it live or archived at the Calitics Show homepage or grab the podcast at iTunes. If you'd like to call in live, shoot me an email with your phone number and I'll send you the call-in #.

Hannah-Beth Jackson on the Calitics Show

by: Brian Leubitz

Tue Jun 10, 2008 at 11:30:26 AM PDT

(Starting in just one minute... - promoted by Lucas O'Connor)

We weren't able to arrange everything for our Monday 3:30 time slot, but today, in addition to a wrap-up of the June 3 election, we'll have an interview with Hannah-Beth Jackson, Democratic Nominee for the 19th State Senate District. We recorded the interview this morning, and let's just say she'll make a great Senator. The show will air today (6/10) at 3:30. You can listen live at the homepage, check it out later, or download it at iTunes.

In other news from this race, the Ventura County Star did a report on Sunday about who is funding the Ventura County GOP. You'll find some unsurprising answers:

The nation's largest tobacco company has donated $50,000 to the Ventura County Republican Central Committee as the local party gears up to help GOP candidate Tony Strickland in what is expected to be a multimillion-dollar campaign this fall in the 19th Senate District.
*       *          *
The contribution accounts for 88 percent of the $56,800 the county party had raised this year through the most recent reporting period. ... The $50,000 contribution came from the Altria Group, parent company of Philip Morris USA, which makes half the cigarettes sold in the United States. Osborn said he has no concerns about accepting such a large sum from the tobacco industry.

No concerns? Really? You can find Hannah-Beth on the Calitics ActBlue page.

by: Brian Leubitz

Mon Jun 02, 2008 at 09:47:11 AM PDT

Robert joins Dave and I for this week's podcast.  We recorded it last night, so no calls today.  We discussed some of California's interesting primary races tomorrow as well as the budget. We'll be doing this one a bit earlier than normal, beginning at 3p.m, and running to almost 4pm.

As always, you can listen live at the Calitics Radio Show homepage, stream it there later or download the podcast at iTunes.

Calitics Show at 3:30 Today with Lloyd Levine and Fran Pavley

by: Brian Leubitz

Mon Apr 28, 2008 at 15:21:32 PM PDT

Just a quick final reminder of the Calitics Show. You can stream it live on the Radio show home page or listen to a podcast there or at iTunes.

Assembly member Lloyd Levine and former Assembly member Fran Pavley will join us to talk about a number of California policy issues. I figure they might also mention the fact that they are both running for SD-23 as well.

The Calitics Show: Tomorrow at 4! Check out the mobile site, too

by: Brian Leubitz

Wed Mar 26, 2008 at 16:36:42 PM PDT

Sorry to be so brash and commercial about this, but, well, it happens. Tomorrow, Dave Dayen and myself will be hosting another episode of the seriously not regular Calitics at 4 PM. You can listen to the show live on the show page.

Also, in case you haven't been annoyed by my persistence with the mobile site enough, let me  bother you again. Calitics will, quite simply, be the best source of information for the Democratic convention. Bar none, gold standard, whatever you want. We'll have several regular posters in San Jose for the event, and you can even comment on the mobile site. We'll provide plenty of open threads for you to post whatever info you want up there. So, make sure you watch the mobile site  throughout the three days of the convention. mobile site. mobile site. mobile site. There, now you should remember. :)

The Calitics Show: Featuring LA City Councilman Eric Garcetti

by: Brian Leubitz

Mon Feb 04, 2008 at 20:27:43 PM PST

Well, that was fun! We had LA Council President Eric Garcetti, a live report from Bob Brigham at the Grateful Dead for Obama show in San Francisco, and an interesting conversation between David Dayen and myself about the election tomorrow, in that order.  So, take a listen, I think, IMHO anyway, that it was pretty interesting.  I think we'll try to do this more often. Let me know if you have a topic you'd like to consider for our next show.

The Calitics Show: Monday 2/4 at 7:30 Open Thread

by: Brian Leubitz

Sun Feb 03, 2008 at 14:27:42 PM PST

We haven't done a Calitics show in quite a while, but we haven't forgotten about it. On Monday, we will have a show at 7:30, featuring myself and David Dayen, and, hopefully, some special guests. We'll update if and when guests are confirmed. We're also going to try to get in a song or two from the Grateful Dead show in San Francisco, but we're still working on the technology aspect of that. We'll be talking about the presidential race, and, if you care to join us, you can call in at (718) 664-9561.

At the Calitics BlogTalkRadio page, you can check out the first Calitics Show, way back when, set a reminder for yourself, or download a podcast.

Got any other thoughts?

The Calitics Show, now available online.

by: Brian Leubitz

Wed Jul 25, 2007 at 10:30:55 AM PDT

If you click that play button right above, you'll get the first episode of the podcast. It seems that I'm louder than everybody else. I'll see if I can work on that. I want to really thank Asm. Mark Leno for joining us. It appears that the end of the show was cut off, so I'll put in the Assemblyman's plug that he tried to make for his website. I think our discussion of Prop 89/public financing of campaigns was cut off. For that I apologize, but I suppose I know these things for next time. And if you'd like to hear Asm. Leno's opinion on public campaign financing, check the flip.
