Well, did Todd know that there were Republicans in there? Check out the article on Hillary's fundraiser in The Laguna Beach Independent:
Among the guests... were several Republicans. "They have said to me point blank, 'she may have swayed me'," [Clinton Campaign's Southern California Finance Committee Member Terry] Baker said. "They couldn't wait to get in line to get their picture taken with her."
Host Stevan Gromet, a self-described conservative Republican and like Clinton, a Yale law school graduate, surprised guests with his introduction. "I am looking for pure, transcendent, charismatic leadership," Gromet said... "And what I heard from Hillary was an earnest and serious discourse about our country's political ailments, cast in terms and concepts that went beyond party politics... So if Hillary and I are two separate dots, her talk last week was definitely a connection between those dots with a bold line."
So what is it that's swaying Republicans to Hillary's side? And is it in any way related to the reasons why many progressive Democratshave turnedagainst Hillary? And is winning the hearts and wallets of big Orange County donors enough to help her win California, and win the nomination?
(Here's what happened yesterday at the Orange County for Obama event in Fullerton. Hope you enjoy this, and that it inspires the other campaigns elsewhere in the state to get active and get local! : ) - promoted by atdleft)
Yesterday, I saw a pretty amazing thing happening on my home turf. For once, people in Orange County were getting excited about the next election. They also seemed to be thrilled about supporting a candidate who, for once, is not the "lesser of evils", but the greater of goods. Yesterday, I dropped by the OC for Obamameet-up in Fullerton, and I was quite amazed by the enthusiasm of these folks for not just Barack Obama, but also for changing American politics for the better.
Join me after the flip for more on what happened yesterday, along with more pictures!
(Disclaimer: Yes, I am now part of the OC volunteer grassroots effort for Obama. No, I am not a paid staffer for ANYONE. Yes, I'm so far liking what I see with Obama. No, I don't think he's perfect. And yes, I am striving to continue giving fair treatment and a fair chance to all the other candidates.)

She's loved. She's hated. She's brilliant. She's misunderstood. She's stylish. She's shrewd. She's whatever we want to see out of her. Like it or not, she's Hillary. And she's in... To win.
Early on, Hillary Clinton was the unconquerable front runner for the Democratic nomination in 2008. However, no one expected her to win the general election...
Until she began pulling even, or even ahead, of the possible Republican nominees in the polls. However in the meantime, it seems like Hillary's lock on states like California is being called into question as old issues from the past continue to haunt her.
So what can Hillary do? What can she do to stop Edwards or Obama from taking the grand prize of California next February, along with the Democratic nomination? Follow me after the flip for more...
(This is another article in my occasional series on the 2008 Presidential Primary in California. Take a look at my last article on Barack Obama. And no, I am not endorsing Hillary. I'm just taking an unbiased look at her campaign, and what she can do better.)

Yesterday, Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) formally announced his Presidential campaign. And no, I was not surprised by this. However, what did pleasantly surprise me was how he was able to turn his greatest liability into an attractive asset, all in a few choice words:
[T]hat is why, in the shadow of the Old State Capitol, where Lincoln once called on a divided house to stand together, where common hopes and common dreams still, I stand before you today to announce my candidacy for President of the United States.
I recognize there is a certain presumptuousness - a certain audacity - to this announcement. I know I haven't spent a lot of time learning the ways of Washington. But I've been there long enough to know that the ways of Washington must change.
Again, this just amazes me. After all, the DC Beltway Conventional Wisdom holds that Obama is not seasoned enough, and does not have enough "experience" to be President just yet. However I've been thinking about it, and I am quickly coming to the conclusion that Obama already may have the right stuff to win the White House in 2008...
And we California Democrats may be in just the right position to help him out.
Would you like to find out how? Well, follow me after the flip for more...
Ah, how fun it is to see how Hollywood is trying to deal with the Presidential Primary! Oh, and especially with the early primary looking more and more like reality, their early contributions could make a big difference right here in the Golden State. So is this good news for Hillary Clinton, or can Barack Obama make inroads in Tinseltown?
