Assembly Approves Marriage Equality (Again)

by: Andrew Davey (atdleft)

Tue Jun 05, 2007 at 19:34:44 PM PDT

(Now with video. - promoted by Brian Leubitz)

THE STATE ASSEMBLY JUST APPROVED MARRIAGE EQUALITY ONCE AGAIN!

But anyways, as I was starting to feel happy that the Assembly approved legislation that would allow me to find the hubby of my dreams, Chuckie just had to piss me off by saying this. Whatever. All I say to him, and to others who oppose equal rights for all, is that allowing all loving couples to make lasting commitments for life strengthens marriage. Discrimination doesn't.

Families worrying about what to eat weakens families, and marriages at that. Families worrying about where to live weakens families, and marriages at that. Families worrying about health care weakens families, and marriages at that. If Chuckie DeVore really cares about families and marriages, then maybe he should do something about what families are actually worried about.

But enough of Chuckie, let's get back to the good news of today! Fortunately, most Assembly Members don't share the same distorted views as Chuckie. They recognize that the institution of marriage is only strengthened when the state does not discriminate over which loving couples can get married and which ones can't. Thank goodness they did the right thing today. : )

Surreal OC Weekend!: Special Psycho Wingnut Edition!

by: Andrew Davey (atdleft)

Sat Mar 03, 2007 at 06:48:55 AM PST

OK, so it's my birthday today...
And I still have so many things to do...
So here's a new weekend tradition that I'm starting here...
Yes, I'm starting it just for you!
SURREAL OC WEEKEND!

So here are some gruesome stories from Wingnut Freeperland that you may have missed while you were, I dunno, discussing the rural/urban divide over transportation bond money, or getting giddy about Mark Leno announcing his bid for State Senate. But anyways, enough of that 'cuz it's time for some good ol' fashioned Orange County fun!

- "Look at me, I'm a wingnut!" Just when I was beginning to tolerate Chuck DeVore, he just had to find a way to make me hate him again! Chucky is now boasting about how "conservative" he is, and how he proudly stands against "homosexual 'rights'" and the use of "the power of government to force a radical social agenda on the rest of us". So Brian and all you SFers, it looks like DeVore is saying that folks like Mark Leno use "the power of government to force a radical social agenda on the rest of us"... What say you?

Want to see how progressives are answering to DeVore's wingnuttiness, and what a prominent GOP consultant gave me for my birthday, and a special birthday surprise that I'm giving you? Follow me after for the flip for more! : )

Surreal OC Weekend!: Get Ready to Get WILD!!

by: Andrew Davey (atdleft)

Sat Feb 24, 2007 at 09:00:42 AM PST

OK, so I'm feeling tired today...
And I still have so many things to do...
So here's a new weekend tradition that I'm starting here...
Yes, I'm starting it just for you!
SURREAL OC WEEKEND!

So here are some wild and wonderful Orange County stories that you may have missed while you were, I dunno, discussing how bloggers should be treated like journalists in the Legislature, or discussing whether or not Barack Obama was being offensive by calling Barbara Boxer a "cutie". But anyways, enough of that 'cuz it's time for some good ol' fashioned Orange County fun!

- Here goes the circular firing squad! Having fun watching the GOP self-destruct over its Presidential Candidates? Well, Dan has more on the wild political theater that is the GOP Presidential Primary at The Liberal OC.

- Will the recount end up in court? That's what Jubal/Matt Cunningham seems to think at OC Blog. And perhaps with the recount of the Special Supe Election possibly being decided by as few as ten votes, that may be what we have to expect from one of the most hotly contested Supervisor race since... Well, since Cathryn DeYoung spent $3.7 MILLION TRYING TO BUY THE SUPE SEAT IN SOUTH COUNTY!!!!

- Chuck DeVore surprises me again! After seeing that DeVore is teaming up with Mark Leno again to push legislation legalizing industrial hemp, I was quite blown away... UNTIL I SAW THIS!! "Breaking the cycle of recidivism will alleviate the severe overcrowding that is crippling our correctional system... The ability to offer focused drug treatment will not only help people stay out of prison and rebuild their lives, it will go a long way towards keeping our homes and streets safer." And yes, AB 716 is co-authored by Democrat Mervyn Dymally. Now if only we could get Arnold to care about real solutions to this real problem...

And finally...

- Consultants say OCC should sell Canadian Island...
But how the heck did our local community college get a forty acre wilderness island in British Columbia in the first place?

Now ain't that SURREAL, or what? ; )

The Surreal Politics of Orange County: Fun & Games with the OC GOP!!

by: Andrew Davey (atdleft)

Tue Feb 20, 2007 at 07:54:57 AM PST

Here are some wild and wonderful stories from behind the Orange Curtain, and direct from our friends at the Orange County GOP, that will make you laugh, cry, and scratch your head in total disbelief:

- What the dealio with AD 69? My friend, and former OC GOP Central Committee member, Art Pedroza has all the scoop on what sounds like a real fiasco in Central OC for the Republicans.

- Meet the Godfather. Who ever knew that "Godfather" Mike Schroeder would allow Don Daucher, husband of former (moderate GOPer) Assemblymember Lynn Daucher, to make nice with him. I guess Trung Nguyen really is bringing everyone together...

- And speaking of Mr. Photoshop... The California Republican Lawyers' Association has agreed to help Trung Nguyen in the recount. And why? Because "Ms. [Janet] Nguyen claims to be a Republican, and we found it puzzling she has involved so many Democrat Attorneys." 'Cuz ya know, them Democrat Attorneys like to make sure that elections ain't stolen, and they care about the law...
And it ain't that much fun to win an election legally... hehe ; )

- Intrigue in Irvine. Martin Wisckol reveals in today's OC Register who was REALLY behind the nastiest political mailers in Irvine history. Wow, wouldn't Honest Abe be proud of what The Lincoln Club is doing in his name? Dan has more at The Liberal OC.

And finally...

- DeVore's Smokin'!! OK, maybe not... But our favorite Irvine Assemblymember is teaming up with Mark Leno (??!!) to reintroduce legislation that would legalize industrial hemp. As DeVore says in a recent interview with the ABC affiliate in SF, "It's absolutely criminal that American farmers, the most productive and efficient farmers on the planet, cannot be allowed to grow a naturally occurring plant, that grows wild in America." Wow, I actually agree with DeVore on something...

Now ain't THAT SURREAL, or what??!! ; )

The Surreal Politics of Orange County: Republican Consultants Need a Wake-up Call

by: Andrew Davey (atdleft)

Fri Feb 02, 2007 at 07:19:55 AM PST

I was lurking OC Blog/Red County (the Orange County hangout for Republican insiders and consultants) yesterday and found this doozie by GOP consultant Jubal/Matt Cunningham. Basically, it's a rebuke of Nicole Rivera's recent post on the California Progress Report about the resurgence of Orange County Democrats. Now Jubal would like to think that it's Nicole who needs a "tutoring in reality", but I must beg to differ. If anything, Jubal and his GOP consultant friends need to wake up and smell the coffee:
Their party is falling apart in Central Orange County while we're getting our act together!

Would you like to see how OC Blog is wrong in its slam of OC Democrats? And is OC forever doomed to be "Red County"? Well, follow me after the flip to find out...
