Is your Congressman on this List? They all should be

by: Brian Leubitz

Wed Aug 29, 2007 at 17:44:25 PM PDT

Here's a list of some CA Congress Critters:

Rep. Lynn Woolsey (CA); Rep. Barbara Lee (CA); Rep. Maxine Waters (CA); Rep. Ellen Tauscher (CA); Rep. Diane Watson (CA); Rep. Bob Filner (CA); Rep. Hilda Solis (CA); Rep. Michael Honda (CA); Rep. Grace Flores Napolitano (CA); Rep. Linda Sanchez (CA); Rep. Pete Stark (CA); Rep. Lois Capps (CA)

What is this list? It's a list of the California delegation that has signed on to the following statement:

We are writing to inform you that we will only support appropriating additional funds for U.S. military operations in Iraq during Fiscal Year 2008 and beyond for the protection and safe redeployment of all our troops out of Iraq before you leave office.

You can find more information at DailyKos. You can contact your Congress critter here.

Is not at all on the list.  Despite her seat being pretty darn safe despite public impressions to the contrary.

But can I also mention, as I noted at OpenLeft earlier, I'm really glad that I can be happy more often as time goes on with the actions of Ellen Tauscher.

Speier for CA-12 (8.00 / 3)
It would be great to have Jackie Speier rather than Tom Lantos in CA-12.

Shoot out: Former state Sen. Jackie Speier, buoyed by a poll showing her a 2-1 favorite among voters, says she is weighing a bid to unseat fellow Democrat and 13-term Congressman Tom Lantos.

The poll conducted in late January by Sacramento Democratic pollster Jim Moore showed Speier defeating Lantos in a head-to-head matchup by a stunning 50 percent to 24 percent among Democratic voters in the 12th District, which includes northern San Mateo County and parts of San Francisco.

The survey of 300 voters found that both Speier and Lantos are generally well regarded, and both have high name recognition. But the poll also shows that Lantos, who will turn 80 in February, may be vulnerable over his age.

On the other hand, challenging Lantos would likely set off a highly charged backlash against Speier, both within her own party and from a potent Jewish lobby in Washington.

Speier is spending the summer mulling over the challenge.

"I've got this conscience thing" to consider, Speier told us.

As for Team Lantos' react to Speier's mulling?

"Contemplation is one thing and certainty is another - and all we know for certain is Tom Lantos is going to run for re-election," said spokeswoman Lynne Weil.

She adds that age isn't a factor for Lantos. "He swims every day, is in very good shape and runs circles around his staff."

Speier needs to land somewhere.  She is to bright of a star to be out of a job in politics.  Interesting.

Interesting.  Early polls like that don't mean much more than she's got an opening, but that is still a striking number.  Count me as believing, however, that Lantos could raise significant money and run a tough campaign if he started to feel the heat.

A bit surprised Sam Farr's not on that list (0.00 / 0)
Gonna have to call over there and see what's up.

You can check out any time you like but you can never leave

California Democrats Not on the List (w/PVI) (6.50 / 2)
Mike Thompson (CA-01) - D+10
Doris Matsui (CA-05) - D+14
George Miller (CA-07) - D+19
Nancy Pelosi (CA-08) - D+36
Jerry McNerney (CA-11) - R+3
Tom Lantos (CA-12) - D+22
Anna Eshoo (CA-14) - D+18
Zoe Lofgren (CA-16) - D+16
Sam Farr (CA-17) - D+17
Dennis Cardoza (CA-18) - D+3
Jim Costa (CA-20) - D+5
Brad Sherman (CA-27) - D+13
Howard Berman (CA-28) - D+25
Adam Schiff (CA-29) - D+12
Henry Waxman (CA-30) - D+20
Xavier Becerra (CA-31) - D+30
Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) - D+23
Jane Harman (CA-36) - D+11
Joe Baca (CA-43) - D+13
Loretta Sanchez (CA-47) - D+5
Susan Davis (CA-53) - D+12

With the exception of McNerney, Cardoza, Costa, and Loretta Sanchez, all of these Reps represent solidly Democratic districts.  How much of the electorate do you think wants the US to stay in Iraq indefinitely in these hard-core Democratic districts?

I called Henry Waxman's office (0.00 / 0)
They said they'd e-mail when they found out Waxman's stance.

Haven't heard back yet.
