Some links for your weekend:

• CalBuzz has some complaints about why NPR chose to focus a 9 minute story about the California governor's race on Gavin Newsom. They have an excellent point, where were the interviews of the other candidates?, And why did Garry South (seemingly) write the piece?

• Nothing like building up expectations. A group of about 600, the Pasadena Patriots, claims they are going to flood Rep. Adam Schiff's town hall panel next week to complain about the "socialized medicine." In other news, don't let the Government take over my Medicare!

• The national unemployment rate went down. California's is still hovering around 11.5%.

• Brian Dennert has an interview with AD-35 candidate Das Williams via blog comment at his site. It's an interesting read, and a cool use of the format.

• A good summary of the package being offered NUMMI to keep their plant open in Fremont.

PXP polling for their offshore drilling project (0.00 / 0)

Apparently they have hired Fairbanks Maslin Maulin Associates (identified at the top of the poll as "FMMA") to take opinions of the project for PXP. I was barely awake when they did this on a Sunday morning, but the poll started with questions about Schwarzenegger, Garamendi, the Lands Commission and the Coastal Commission, moved on into the usual testing of pro-PXP statements (two or three rounds of questioning there), a round of anti-PXP statements that were fairly weak and not of the "opponents of PXP want Californians to not able to get to work and die" variety, and demographic information.

They polled on the Legislature creating a new offshore oil commission to approve these projects, thus eliminating power from the state lands commission (something I wasn't aware of), the proposal to link an oil severance tax with the approval of the PXP offshore drilling project, and also polled on the various alleged benefits of the project, such as the money for the state coffers, the global warming fund, and the habitat restoration. They named environmental groups that I have never heard of that supported the project, which I did not find credible environmental groups without more information. I live in the Inland Empire, miles from the coast, so I assume this poll is statewide or at least Southern California wide. Anyway, don't be surprised if you see PXP using the results of this poll, if it benefits them.
