John Campbell: Barack Obama Was Born in the US...to the Best of My Knowledge

by: Brian Leubitz

Wed Jul 22, 2009 at 10:44:00 AM PDT

A slight pause in your all-budget all the time Calitics.  User mbayrob posted this in the open thread, but IMHO, it is worthy of its own thread.  So, here it is, John Campbell hemming and hawing when asked about the "birther" claims that Barack Obama wasn't really born in the United States.  This is despite the fact that Obama has released his birth certificate which has been duly certified by the State of Hawaii.

Yet Rep. John Campbell is once again using these weasel words to give foundation to, as Chris Matthews called them, the crazies in the Republican Party.  You might notice that Campbell was not co-sponsoring such a bill when the president at issue was George W Bush, but alas, we need certainty! Like, um, a birth certificate showing that he was born in Hawaii.

Meanwhile, Irvine Mayor Beth Krom, a Democrat, is running for the 48th Congressional District in 2010.

Birthers (0.00 / 0)
It was a great listen.  I hear that Lou Dobbs has jumped on board now too.

But maybe the Birthers are missing an issue.  Instead of closing their eyes and screaming "la la la la" when shown Obama's certified birth certificate, the Birthers should argue that Hawaii was never properly admitted as a state.

Complete aside:  Having grown up when people spoke of the "crazy Birchers," I can't get over how great the phrase "crazy Birthers" sounds.

Jon Stewart said that to the best of his knowlege: (0.00 / 0)
John Campbell did not:
  • Get 50% of his campaign donations from Pablo Escobar.
  • Regularly frequent a truck stop in his district offering to do $1 [name of lewd act redacted here] jobs.

To the best of Jon Stewart's knowledge, at least, as of tonight's Daily Show.

No video yet.  Worth tracking down and showing to your friends, relatives, acquaintances and the odd passerby.

I have no idea why John Campbell is putting his name on this rediculous bill. It frustrates me that John Campbell stopped federal dollars from comming to my city (newport) to save our wetlands (doesnt take the time to care about his district) but does take the time to sign on to this non sense. Seems like hes a politician with no direction or valid purpose. Whoever runs against him has my vote. This guy is TRUELY out of touch with his district.
