81 said "healthcare is a right"

82 agreed with "our healthcare system in broken"

79 have insurance; 45 are happy with it; 24 pay for it themselves, 15 paid by employer,20 are a combination, 17 others were Medicare.

67 "agree with President Obama's three principles of reform" but many said they needed more details.

SOME COMMENTS ENTERED ON THE SURVEY FORMS:

lindasutton :: Single Payer -- Overwhelmingly Supported at OFA Outreach in Van Nuys CA
"I lost my healthcare when I got laid off. Healthcare should not be tied to employment"

"Single pay is the most sensible and reasoned method lately."

"Both France and Canada serve as good models."

"I am on Medicare through a non-profit HMO (Kaiser). That works well. Senior Advantage (with gov. assistance) should be for non-profits only."

"A person cannot have more than one insurer for his home or his car. Why should he need to have more than one insurer for healthcare? The insurers do NOT coordinate benefits and collect more than 180% which is supposed to be illegal, but congressmen and senators refuse to do anything about it."

"Medicare requires you to pay for medigap insurance to cover what Medicare does not. The goal should be a single payer program that pays ALL LEGITIMATE medical expenses of EVERY citizen."

"I am barely treading water. I am disabled but not disabled ENOUGH for SSI. I rely on clinics like El Proyecto del Barrio for necessary health care, and just lost my mental health coverage. We need SOLUTIONS, not gimmicks. And I may die before a 7 year "trigger period" completes. HELP!!!"

"Capitalism. Let people keep the money they earn and pay for products and services they value. Eliminate the attitude that the government is Daddy and has to provide all our needs and wants."

"Why aren't actual healthcare providers consulted about what is happening rather than leaving healthcare decisions to insurance companies and politicians?"

"Being happy with my personal insurance plan does not mean that I would not want change for single payer or public option care. Right now insured Americans have to wait for care. Insured Americans do not have freedom to choose their doctor; instead they are confined to HMO groups. Doctors do not have the freedom to practice heath care; they are burdened by billing and approval requirements of insurance companies. Self-employed people have limited and expensive access to insurance; most have no insurance. What choice is that? Single payer does not pit healthy vs. chronic medical condition sufferers against each other. Single payer says we each pay a fair share for all citizens' care."

"Single Payer is best way to save money for patients and providers, improve quality and guarantee coverage for all."

"Healthcare should NOT be for profit. Healthcare should be provided free to all citizens EQUALLY."

"Politicians are AFRAID to tax more, so we have an adequate amount of money. The money must be enough to raise level of care."

"Education to seniors will help them understand why they should drop Medicare direct -- private companies. Now there is no info to really compare the two easily."

"Please give details. The devil is in the details." (Obama's 3 principles of reform)

"The Congress worships money. The President loves money too."

"And the Congress takes their money to assure their elections -- so they will do their bidding." (of insurance, healthcare, pharmaceutical industries)"And the Congress won't co-operate with the peoples' need thus influencing the President."

"We need Clean Money!" (on industry influence)

"I'm in favor of 'single payer' but as a provider as well as consumer, I am concerned about who writes the regulations."

"Medicare for all."

"No Excuses! Single Payer Now!"
