Same-sex marriage and Congressional District 10

by: Erich Holtmann

Sat Jun 13, 2009 at 19:42:08 PM PDT

Three of the contenders for the 10th Congressional District seat attended the grand opening of the Contra Costa united Democratic campaign headquarters today. Of the three, Mark DeSaulnier and Adriel Hampton signed a petition for an initiative to repeal Prop. 8 and reinstate the right of same-sex couple to marry. John Garamendi declined to sign, citing his personal policy of not signing petitions for initiatives. Garamendi later stated his "strong support for marriage equality" in his speech to those at the grand opening.

This comes the day after the Obama administration's surprisingly vigorous defense of the so-called Defense of Marriage Act. Remember Obama, that self-described “fierce advocate for gay and lesbian Americans” ?

Actions speak louder than words.
