Feinstein's campaign co-chair endorses Arnold, gets put "on notice!"

by: neutron

Fri Aug 11, 2006 at 11:30:02 AM PDT

I found this tidbit in the comments of our still brand spanking new people powered site GovernorPhil.com. It looks like Dianne Feinstein (who is up for re-election this year, and somehow managed to squeak by without getting Lamont-ed), has a problem. Namely that her campaign co-chair Angela Bradstreet, just
mouthed off to the press about how she is not going to vote for Phil Angelides in the fall... and why? because she's sick of paying taxes! Ohhh... boo hoo...

"Quite frankly, I'm also sick and tired of paying taxes," she said. "And that's Angelides' solution -- raising taxes."

If I may quote the great and wise philosopher Plato: "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!"
Angela Bradstreet, you are officially "on notice".

(quotes and more below the cut)

neutron :: Feinstein's campaign co-chair endorses Arnold, gets put "on notice!"

"A number of my Democratic friends, who have raised lots of money for Democrats, have said they cannot support Phil," said Angela Bradstreet, a well known San Francisco attorney and co-chair of Sen. Dianne Feinstein's re-election campaign. "This is the first time I can remember it being so pronounced."

Bradstreet, a Democrat who said she is voting for Schwarzenegger, argued that the governor has re-established himself as a moderate who has shown strong leadership on economic issues.

Well quite frankly i'm sick and tired of so-called Bloomberg "democrats" constantly wanting to have the world and not pay for it. It's like the guy who always excuses himself to go to the bathroom whenever the bill comes. Pathetic.

Boo fucking hoo!
Taxes are the dues you pay for living in a modern civilized society.
If you don't like the idea of paying taxes, then talk to Enron and the other energy companies that absconded with 9 Billion of the states money in the Rolling Blackmail. In fact talk to Arnold about that, as his buddy the departed Ken Lay was one of the people who benefited from that, which instigated the recall that got him into office.

Phil Angelides is the only candidate to say what needs to be said.
We need to be responsible and pay the debt off, that means tightening the belt a little.

Arnold just plans on borrowing and borrowing and borrowing until the states debt becomes insurmountable, much like Bush's plan for the US.

Also the idea of Arnold as a moderate is simply laughable, and I wouldn't call a policy to borrow, and borrow until the states debt becomes insurmountable, "strong leadership on economic issues."

I can't believe this waste of flesh is on Feinstein's re-election committee.
Hey, she's free to vote however she wants, but if you ask me, she should keep her trap shut, less it affect her candidates election chances.

If this infuriates you as much as it does me, feel free to send DiFi (who's up for re-election this year) an

update: hat tip to MJB

DiFi appointed Angela Bradstreet to the "Northern California Federal Judicial Advisory Committee", which recommends nominees for federal judgeships in northern California to the California senators and the White House.

Feinstein's appointees on this committee ought to be loyal Democrats.

You know damn well that Bush is only appointing loyal Republicans to judge-picking committees -- he would never give such a plum job to any Republican who endorses Democratic candidates.  So why should the Democratic seats on this committee go to fake Democrats like Bradstreet, who work to re-elect Republican governors?

When you call Feinstein's office, ask that she demand that Ms. Bradstreet immediately resign her seat on the Northern California Federal Judicial Advisory Committee.

update: Well I had to call Dianne's campaign again to get an official answer back, (so much for that call back eh?) but this time the guy I talked to was prepared with a statement.

The official word is that Angela Bradstreet speaking in a personal capacity and not for the campaign. That Dianne Feinstein was an early and enthusiastic supporter of Phil Angelides and continues to be so.

No word on if there is going to be a press release, public repudiation or other atonement on the part of DiFi, yet. Or for that matter of Bradstreet will continue to be involved with the campaign.

called DiFi's campaign office. (0.00 / 0)
and got a very nervous sounding intern, took my number and promised somebody would get back with me... we'll see about that.

I used the word "appalled" a few times...

in response to neutron's diary on dailykos, i offered this challenge! (8.00 / 2)
i have offered to those donating on the dailykos site a chance to win a new (made, er, strung, by me) strand of pearls - worth up to $200 for donations up to the hundred dollar mark, but if the winning donation exceeds $100, i'll give the highest donor a strand guaranteed to appraise over $500!

here is the diary, copied from kos - so if you all would like to participate, register, if you haven't, already (you can post 24 hrs later) and register your donation!

i'll keep the contest open for one week - ending next friday at 8pm.  good luck - and if you are a guy, think christmas gift! (OR, i do "guy pearls"!)

here is the diary...

with hat held out, i am here begging - but not for me! Hotlist

i am here holding my hat out to beg your help for the state of california!

after reading neutron's diary about how angela bradstreet, a cochairman of feinstein's campaign has said that she is supporting schwarzenegger and her rich fellow dems are, too, i was appalled!

"Quite frankly, I'm also sick and tired of paying taxes," she said. "And that's Angelides' solution -- raising taxes."

after then reading that clinton's recent visit to assist in fundraising for phil angelides has failed to draw the support anticipated from the "good ol' boy (and girl) dems", i am worried!  so - i am appealing to US - the "grassroots" to save california!

  * edrie's diary :: ::
*

the democratic party is, indeed, in a battle for it's definition.  do we allow the status quo to continue while the "old school" machine picks ONLY those candidates who "feather" their pockets?  does angela bradstreet represent this "wing" of the party when she chooses to support a candidate soley on the basis of who saves her from paying taxes?

frankly, i'm sick and tired of the "what's in it for me" democrats - and after ned lamont's victory, it would seem that there are many more of "me" than of "them"!  they know damned WELL that schwarzneger is no moderate - he is a die-hard bush republican who knows how to play an audience!

the SFGATE reports that angelides raised a mere $900,000 from july 25 to now (after clinton's visit) but that isn't what troubled me about the article... it was THIS bit of information that makes me VERY worried!

Perhaps even more problematic for the treasurer, however, are the names still missing from the Angelides' donor list even after the Clinton visit.

People such as Los Angeles-based home builders Eli Broad and Bruce Karatz, former studio chief Sherry Lansing and Beverly Hills developer Alan Casden -- each of whom has either given to or helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for Democrats in recent years but have yet to give to Angelides this year.

Billionaire investor Ron Burkle, a long-time Clinton pal, gave former Gov. Gray Davis more than $200,000 for his campaigns between 2000 and 2003, but nothing so far to Angelides. Burkle also was notably absent from last week's event because of a business trip.

but THIS makes me absolutely LIVID!

Media entrepreneur Haim Saban, who gave $200,000 to help defeat the recall and $150,000 to re-elect Davis in 2002, has endorsed Schwarzenegger.

makes you wonder what's in it for saban!  more tax relief - like he NEEDS it!  give US a break instead, PLEASE!  HEY! bradstreet! hey! SABAN! pay your fair share so that those of us with less money don't have to pick up the tab for the benefits YOU enjoy!

ok, enough of flailing against windmills - very RICH windmills!  here's what i'm asking, no begging!

PLEASE contribute to angelides campaign - anything, $5, $10, $15 - damn, even send a DOLLAR if that's all you have!

i have absolutely NO money (well, i've got $20 for gas) - no checking account, no savings account, no hidden slush fund - NADA!  BUT i have pearls, i bought more stock yesterday - and that is my entire worldly wealth - trying to turn it into more so i can buy more to sell to finally try to reach where i USED to be before dec. 1999 when my business once again went into the toilet (THANK you george bush!) AND i am going to set ONE strand aside - and that strand will go to angelides!

why?  because if i don't, it will come back to bite me HARD after election day - you see, i cannot afford supporting the angela bradstreets and the haim sabans and the ron burkles of the world - i'm too busy trying to find that expired date bargain at grocery outlet!

again, here's phil angelides campaign information... and his contribute page... if you can spare, do it for ALL of us in california who are hurting real BAD right now!

thanks for your time...

edrie

p.s. hey! just had an idea - if anyone is interested, i'll put up a strand for bid here on kos - with the winner who contributes the most to the campaign will "win" the pearls!  if any of you are interested, you can have a choice of traditional freshwater white, peacock grey or pale pink freshwater!  all the winner needs to collect is the confirm they made a contribution and the amount to angelides campaign! (maybe get an email from the campaign?)

so, contribute away, my friends and take a "chance" on california!  (our coasts, especially, since the "terminator" has already indicated he'll allow drilling offshore!)

i'll keep open the "contribution contest" for one week!
you can either post and the winner can "confirm" at the end of the week or you can email me at takebackcongress at gmail dot com!

it if works well, maybe we'll do this again for other candidates!

hey, i don't have money but i have pearls!  and i believe that one person CAN make a difference!  good luck!

good luck and remember, you are doing this for california!  the pearls are just added goodstuff!

Sad. (0.00 / 0)
This is exactly the kind of thing that Republicans don't do.

This person should have simply kept their mouth shut. All she had to do was say that she's "focused on Feinstein's reelection" instead.

I'm also tired of these wankerific tax speeches.

That said, there are some realities here. (1) Angelides is a terrible candidate and isn't going to win, (2) Feinstein is going to win by a whopping majority.

When we stop pulling gubernatorial candidates from the state house back bench, maybe we'll have a winner.

I'm still going to vote for Phil, but I have no illusions about his appeal.

I think you are dead wrong about Phil. (4.00 / 2)
you are right about DiFi though, and about the tax speeches.

enough with that.

as far as speaking no evil, I would postulate that saying things like "(1) Angelides is a terrible candidate and isn't going to win" is another example of reinforcing Republican memes, be careful with that.

the campaign needs a little help, but we can change the media narrative.

Not cool DiFI (0.00 / 0)
Wow, kinda makes me mad that we didn't challenge DiFi in the primary.  This kind of stuff is ridiculous.  If you're a Democrat working in Democratic electoral politics you better be supporting Democrats.  None of this Bradstreet crap.  I'll be calling DiFi's office immediately.

I think?

Here's a plan (0.00 / 0)
Copied from my post on DKos:

We need to send a stronger message to Feinstein.

How?  Too late to mount a primary challenge.  And we don't want the Green or Repug candidate to actually win.  But here's something we can do: I plan to ask my spouse to vote for Feinstein, and I'll vote for the Green candidate.  If we all do that, she loses half the netroots votes, but since she's sure to win a majority of the rest of the voters, we know we won't tip the election to any of her opponents.

What do you say?
Our demands:

  1. Bradstreet needs to go

  2. Feinstein needs to publicly and vocally support Lamont

  3. She needs to get behind Feingold's censure resolution (or, if it's dead, she needs to co-sponsor a new one!)

  4. She needs to stop with the cutesy cloture votes

  5. She needs to use her Judiciary Committee position to hammer Bush on the NSA wiretaps, Geneva convention violations, weaselly attempts to repeal war crimes laws

etc.

I _tried_ to call the campaign office... (0.00 / 0)
...and found their voicemail system to be utterly broken.  First, following the directions on what button to press for the general mailbox just started the message over again.  Just hanging on the line for a minute got me the box.  Then, the system stopped recording after three or four seconds, and gave me button-push options to review message, re-record, etc; except none of my button-presses had any effect; it just ignored me and kept repeating the instructions.  So I emailed info@dianne2006.com, instead. :-P
