Maria Shriver Endorses Obama

by: Julia Rosen

Sun Feb 03, 2008 at 15:10:24 PM PST

Dave just called from the Michelle Obama, Opera Winfrey event.  Maria Shriver just took the stage and announced that she was endorsing Barack Obama.  Evidently she made up her mind just this morning.

I am sure the Obama advance team was more than happy to make room for a Kennedy on the stage.  From the way that she has been talking recently I expected that she would endorse Clinton if anyone at all.  Good late pickup for Obama in California.  Shriver is pretty respected and often credited with helping Arnold successfully make his move back to being a moderate after the 2005 special election.

A thought experiment: Maria Shriver for VP? (5.00 / 1)
First, let me preface this with my belief that this would never happen. But, here we go anyway, just for giggles. What would happen if Obama chose Shriver as his VP candidate? She's smart, well-known, has a great understanding of politics and political calculus, is of the Kennedy family, but is just as well known for her own journalism. She has been an advocate for women's rights, but is tied to the (strangely) popular Republican Governator. A very middle-of-the-road, change-inspiring kind of pick.

But, do you think Arnold retracts his McCain endorsement? Hahaha! Or better yet, goes and campaigns for Obama/Shriver. That would be freaking hilarious! Can you imagine him on the floor of the Dem. National Convention at Maria's side. It's a hilarious mental image. Gotta love it.

I think?

This story is going to be big for days. Arnold is going to have to answer questions about it for days. McCain will get questions. And both Dems will get questions. Big get for Obama.

I think?

Important to note that (0.00 / 0)
part of the motivation here is to get beyond "political families." Like many of you, I've never had a Presidential ballot w/o either a Clinton or a Bush at the top of the ticket.

As Michelle noted, both she and Barack had humble upbringings. They aren't the dynasty. Not even close.

Of course, this is big news, but I support Obama because of his policies, his character and because for as deeply as I've researched his campaign and his career, and I have, I have consistently found acts of courage, choices based on justice and an integrity that defies expectations.

This is a remarkable candidate who has an equally remarkable spouse, it is no wonder Shriver enodorsed him.

Now let's GOTV.

Something I totally didn't expect... (0.00 / 0)
a total shake-up in the presidential rat race that means that our state actually DOES matter now! I never thought I'd see that coming!
