I'm 6' 3" and was wearing boots (6.50 / 2)
Here is my estimate of what section of the crowd 6' or taller could see the candidate without standing on top of something.

Wow, thanks for the illustration... (0.00 / 0)
Now, where would a petite 5'6" princess like me have to be to see the candidate without being carried on the shoulders of a 6'+ person? ; )

Had enough of the "red county" right-wing crazy-talk bulls***? Well, then come and visit us at The Liberal OC! Yes, there ARE liberals in The OC! : )

even worse (0.00 / 0)
I ran into a friend who is a major SF opinion leader/operative and his young son couldn't even see the candidate on his shoulders.

The kid won't have a story to tell his grandkids about.

we've still got about a year (0.00 / 0)
there will be other rallies in the east bay, if the race is still competitive by feb 5th.

It's not even the whole crowd! (8.00 / 1)
No wonder I didn't see you.

I couldn't see Obama ... (8.00 / 1)
... and I'm about 5'11" and was standing near the "Red Line."

The problem is that the stage was at a lower elevation than most of the crowd.  At events like this, they usually have the stage on a higher platform.

So the vast majority of attendees could hear Obama -- but couldn't see him.

Not very good planning, if you ask me.

my line could be 20 people either way (0.00 / 0)
This was my estimate from throwing elbows through the crowd in the half an hour before the event. When I realized most people couldn't see, I retreated to the back to see how many people were leaving (a lot). Walking along the back horseshoe, I can also attest that many people back there couldn't hear him because the people who couldn't see him weren't paying attention and were talking/bitching through the speech.

Well (0.00 / 0)
Not good planning until he plays the "my god, the level of support is just so unexpected and overwhelming" card.

Thanks for the shot, Brian... (0.00 / 0)
That's the exact angle I was talking about in a comment yesterday.

I hope I see that angle in the video on Obama's website.

I don't like heights, but the chance for that shot was not one to pass up.

There were a half dozen workers on a roof across the street.  Those guys probably had the best seats in the house!

and they had drinks (0.00 / 0)
I looked like a party (I'm bitter because I brought but one bottle of water with me and wish I would have brought three and some green beer).

Didn't want to talk about the drinks... (0.00 / 0)
Not sure if they were on the clock, or not!
