The Daily Show takes on California's initiative system

I'm not going to surprise anybody on this blog when I say that the initiative process is well and truly screwed. It leaves us with the people voting on a minority's rights, voting for contradictory measures, and a wealth of confusion. But with the Daily Show taking aim at the mess that is now, unfortunately, Hiram Johnson's legacy, perhaps the word will get out a bit more broadly.

John Burton, who can make many a sailor blush, surprises even the Daily Show's John Oliver with both his language and his feeling about the initiative system. As Chairman Burton puts it: "It's It's F&$*$D." And a quick note to our esteemed leader, we're not boycotting Amazon anymore. In fact, you can buy one of the exciting Kindle Fire devices and I get a referral fee. Of course, if you'd prefer to shop at a store that hasn't tried to skirt sales taxes for several years, you can shop at Barnes and Noble and get one of their competing Nook tablets. Oooh, exciting, either way, you're helping out Calitics.

Back to the video, MinuteMan crazy dude (and Assemblyman) Tim Donnelly is also featured. But I'll just let you get to that on your own...

(who was my Cognressional rep for years)
But, John is just a waste of time

Brian you seem very capapable of holding apparently conflicting views simultaneously.

Here you fight (and rightly so) for the individual and minority rights of gays and lesbians, but elsewhere you tell minority members of the CTA, i.e. Republicans to love it or leave it. That they should have no right to complain that their hard earned money is taken from them and given to the Democratic Party.

The majority of voters in California have no right to trample on the rights and freedoms of gays and lesbians any more than the majority in the public schools teachers unions (a closed shop by they way so teachers in the political minority have no freedom to leave or form their own union) have to trample on the rights of Republican and decline to state voters.

I'm a Democrat and I see this as blatantly unfair and unjust. Its a crying shame that the California Democratic Party has to rely on essentially stolen money to fund itself.

They wouldn't have included the video of John Burton unless they thought his words were funny/ridiculous/stupid

That interview IS NOT Gonna win a lot of votes for the Democratic Party in California
