Field Poll Part 2: More Good News (Mostly)

by: Robert Cruickshank

Wed Nov 02, 2005 at 08:35:30 AM PST

Great news on Props 73 (parental notification) and Prop 78 (insurance-friendly drugs) from the most recent Field Poll (PDF):

Prop 73:
No  49 (43)
Yes 41 (45)

Prop 78:

No  45 (38)
Yes 36 (39)

Unfortunately, Prop 79, which would actually give some real health care benefits to folks who could use them, is also now trailing:

Prop 79

No  43 (39)
Yes 37 (37)

With one week to go, things are looking good overall for California, although I would like to see 79 pass. Hopefully the GOTV efforts succeed, we win, and then shift attention to 2006 and the replacement of Arnold.

78 Really Stinks (0.00 / 0)
I know, it's probably not the greatest attitude, but I am one of those baseline "no" voters.  That is, I always start off no on the propositions.  I just find that in many instances the legislature should have done something already and it's not my job to do it for them.

My other major problem with initiatives is that they don't give the legislature freedom to operate.  All other things being equal I would really prefer that the legislature makes laws.

now, that being said, I think 79 is overall a good thing.  The real winner if both lose is Big Pharma.  But, at least if both props lose, the legislature can come back in and regulate.  if 78 passes, we have to deal with a nasty Big Pharma morass.

So, bottom line: Vote No on 78!

I think?

Yup (0.00 / 0)
PhRMA has started push polling.  Health-Access filed a complaint today about it.  One good Samaritan got the call and insisted that he speak with a supervisor.  It was a marketing firm calling from Iowa.  Nasty tactics.
