SF: How I plan to vote.

by: randymi

Wed Sep 13, 2006 at 00:06:25 AM PDT

Needless to say I'm voting Democratic in the State and Federal elections. Here is how I plan to vote/support on ballot issues and local elections.

Statewide Ballot Issues:

1A.-1E.:
I now work in a municipal public works department and I know how stretched local communitie are trying to make capital improvements given the dollars they currently have. I'm also happy that there will be more (though still not enough) for public transportation.

Prop 83: Yes
Prop 84: Yes
Prop 85: NO NO NO
Prop 86: Yes (Sorry smokers)
Prop 87: Yes
Prop 88: Yes
Prop 89: Yes
Prop 90: No

Local Elections:

Board of Education:
Dan Kelly
Bob Twomey
Jane Kim

Supervisor District 2: Undecided
Supervisor District 4: Doug Chan
Supervisor District 8: Alix Amelia
Supervisor District 6: Rob Black
Supervisor District 10: Sophie Maxwell
BART Director: Emily Drennen
College Board: Undecided

City Ballot Issues:
A: Yes
B: No
C: No
D: Yes
E: No

F: Undecided
This is a tough call for me and one for which I would appreciate any input. On one hand, paid sick leave should be a basic right. On the
other hand, I know there are many small businesses that truly operate right at the margins, and I worry about the consequences of
such a policy. What does everyone think?

G: No
H: Yes
J. YES YES YES
K: Yes

Ok, that where I stand as of tonight. I welcome all opinions, suggestion, criticism or general rant you may have about what I wrote. Before I stop, I want to than SF For Democray for putting on the canssidates forum yesterday on Fillmore. I thought I knew who I was going to support and who I would not support, but watching the
candiates changed my mind in several instances. I wound up supporting Green candidates for School Board and BART Board. I also learned that Jaynry Mak is as vacant as Fiona Ma and Hydra Mendoza's tenure in the Mayor's office did NOT prepare her for the School
Board, IMHO. ;)

You know, I'm thinking of voting against Dan Kelly (0.00 / 0)
He came to my LGBT Dem club a couple of weeks ago to talk about shutting down ROTC in the schools.  They had pitched it as having something to do with DOn't Ask, DOn't tell, but eventually surrendered that it really had nothing to do with that, but was really about pacifism. I don't need that kind of misleading junk...

It just seemed like he was more concerned with pacifism than with the schools.  Seems like the schools aren't the best place for that discussion.

Am I way off base on him? And do I really have another reasonable choice?

I think?

And the supes, you're kinda all over the board. (0.00 / 0)
I'm a bit confused...Well, first of all, Alix (Amelia) Rosenthal is running against the Mayor's best buddy Bevan Dufty.  SHe's running to the left of Bevan.

And then on Daly's seat, Rob Black is a Gav-endorsed challenger to Chris.  Seems like you're just swapping the roles of Dist. 6 & 8 in terms of balance of power vis a vis the mayor.

I'm in D8, and I'm leaning towards re-electing Bevan, but could be pushed towards Alix at the last moment if she does something interesting.  One thing you can say for Bevan is that he is very, very involved in the community. He responds to every email, etc.

I think?

You're very right (0.00 / 0)
I AM all across the spectrum with my cadidates. I do not worry about whom endorsed whom. For example, I support Black largely because of Daly's antics. On the other hand, I choose School Board candidates based on how competent they sounded. I went into the meeting planning to support Hydra Mendoza, but she seemed lacking a grasp of the issues. To the other extreem, I had no doubt that Twomey could govern effectively.

As for BOS District 4, I was planning to support Mak 'til, as I mentioned in my diary, she came off as vacant as Ma.
